Re: On the matter of censorship

Cursing should never be for the sake of cursing. As others, me included, have said, it''s a way to strengthen emotion when needed.

Many people succeed in self-censorship, or at least not do it for the sake of doing it.

Re: On the matter of censorship

The fact that your post got censored was my entire reason for anger. There's no reason to have censorship here. Now if this were some sort of racist or terrorist site, I could imagine why children are best to avoid that. Hell, most people would. But the fact is: it's not. The current censorship bloc...

Re: On the matter of censorship

To be honest, people here swear in front of kids too. Not talk about everything with excessive swearing, but swearing and cursing nonetheless.

Maybe that's Dutch though.

Re: On the matter of censorship

Even that is just plain unnecessary. The occasional swear word never hurt anybody as long as it's not meant in a demeaning way towards others. I just hate censorship.

On the matter of censorship

I find the censorship a restriction of free speech. Sure we need to keep it civil, but it also restricts expression. I feel we should ease up the current censorship to exclude common 'swear' words. Censorship reminds me of a police state, and it's something we don't want to have, or we'll get Americ...

Re: Banner Contest Voting

I'm not too sure people should be voting for 3. It's a colour scheme that doesn't fit with the current. Of course, I could make an entirely new theme with a different colour scheme.

Re: Banner Contest Voting

For that one, vote for the banner it uses. That's just my attempt at creating a warmer theme.

Re: Post Icons

I'm hoping that's not about the icons :(

Anyway, for those who want to see the entire set, in their best state, download the rar below!

I suppose if you made me a beautiful render of a different, smiling norn, I could use it ;)

Re: Banner Contest

My personal favourite so far is Daan's entry. I'd make one modification though: remove the background image (replacing it with a solid colour), or at the very least make it actually tile. Seams ain't pretty, yo. Also, Daan, maybe try making the norn/ettin/grendel outlined shapes completely opaque? ...

Re: Post Icons

I'm redoing them anyway, as the colours could indeed see change, and the border will be thinner, and lock icons will be more consistent. Also, the blue glow, meaning 'mine' will be changed into a symbol.

Re: Banner Contest

DarkPsycho sent me the theme files, and I've made adjustments. Mainly the icons have been changed, and I've changed the tone of the background. I'm using my own banner in the example, but the winner can always be added in. (BTW, it's on a personal demo installation, not that I'm ripping this board o...

Re: Post Icons

I have to disagree with you: using too much detail will clutter a forum, and draw away from usability. Cleanliness works well in most designs.

Also, I have made many new ones now, and I will show some below.

I'm actually near to completing the set. I'm showing the DarkPsycho when they're done, and he'll decide what to do with them.

Post Icons

Here I present to you... little icons instead of the egg sprites. They've been based on the old CL logo, and are vector, should any resizing need to take place. If I missed any, do tell me. I've just thought of the ones I saw. nonew.png The default, no new posts icon. new.png For when new posts are ...

Re: uhh forum view bug. and other little bugs I guess

I actually have a CL-style vector egg, I made it for the Banner Contest. Shall I make some icons? What would be needed?

Re: Banner Contest

I share fuzzie's view. Multiple themes would be good, and I believe mine is most neutral as a default.

The C1 one is now much nicer :) I'm definitely not a fan of the green glow though

Re: Banner Contest

Consider applying a tiny Gaussian Blur to the C1 background so the dithering ceases.

Version 3:

I consider this my main entry. It would probably require the site to have a new colour scheme, or I need to change the banner's colours.
